The Old Town Las Vegas
From the view point of a visitor Las Vegas is a fairly small town that is easy
to navigate. The majority of the famous casinos are located in one of two areas
there is downtown Las Vegas which locals call old town and then there is Las
Vegas Boulevard know as The Strip.
The casinos in old town are more
historic in nature being smaller and of course older than the ones on the strip.
Fremont St. which has been renovated into the Fremont Street Experience is home
to quite of a few of the old casinos. Including the Golden Gate Casino which is
decorated to reflect the eary ambience of Las Vegas. At the side entrance is a
bronze plaque on the sidewalk that proudly proclaims the site of the first
telephone installed in a Las Vegas Casino. A quick walk across the street will
take you to the Plaza or Main Street Station casinos. Main Street Station has
decorations that are turn of the century antiques.
Here you can see the
Chandeliers from the Coca- Cola Building. A piece of the Berlin Wall, located
oddly enough in the mens room. Along with stained glass from the Lillian Russel
Manison and many more unique and lovely displays. Just down the street from Main
Street Station is the Plaza Hotel and Casino With the latest video poker
machines, a poker room and the only downtown bingo hall the Plaza is worth
seeing. They also have the long running show (The Rat Pack is Back) Located in
the same area is Sam Boyds The California Hotel and Casino. Which features a
porterhouse steak special at the Redwood Bar and grill. for twenty dollars.
Along with the slot machines and table games The California also features a
satellite- fed sports book. |
